Prepare matcha the Japanese way!

For the novice matcha user, we've created this special matcha starter set. All products are handmade in Japan. The Matcha Man matcha starter set contains essential tools for traditional matcha preparation. Naturally, the starter set also includes a package of ceremonial-grade matcha.

Matcha is healthy and has been consumed since ancient times. Originally Tea originates from Southeast Asia. All tea comes from the same tea bush (Camellia sinensus). However, the way it's processed determines the type of tea it becomes.

The starter set contains the following:

  • Bowl (chawan) to prepare the matcha in.
  • Bamboo matcha whisk to froth the matcha
  • Bamboo spoon for dosing
  • 25 grams of premium quality matcha (Ceremonial High Grade, from Uji)

Bowl

The bowl in this starter set is precisely sized for preparing matcha. Great care has been put into this hand-glazed bowl, crafted in Japan. This makes it a beautiful bowl to behold.

Bamboo matcha whisk

This original Japanese whisk is essential for creating the perfect foam on your matcha. It's handmade from a single piece of bamboo, split into fine hairs. The more hairs the whisk has, the finer the matcha foam will be. Basic matcha whisks have 80 hairs. The Matcha Man's matcha whisk has a whopping 100 hairs, for a silky-smooth result.

To ensure that the whisk stays in good shape and lasts longer, it is best to place it on a whisk holder !

Bamboo spoon

The Japanese matcha bamboo spoon, also called a chashaku, is a traditional bamboo spoon used in preparing matcha. The bamboo spoon is used in conjunction with a matcha whisk and a matcha bowl.

Ceremonial High Grade Matcha

This premium quality matcha is of the highest quality and suitable for ceremonial preparation. The Matcha Man's Ceremonial High Grade Matcha is made from the first and second harvests of the season and is characterized by a grassy green color and a sweet, mild umami flavor with a soft foam for a perfect taste experience.

  • Packed and sealed in Japan directly after production process
  • Unopened shelf life 1-2 years
  • JAS certified in Japan

Origin : The owner of this tea plantation in Uji has been producing matcha authentically for over 300 years. Due to its ceremonial quality, this matcha is enjoyed neat to experience the ultimate taste.

Matcha fits into a healthy lifestyle!

The better the quality of matcha, the higher the content of antioxidants, amino acids, and other nutrients. When you consume matcha, you drink the green part of the leaf, which contains all those nutrients. This is in contrast to regular green tea, where you remove the tea leaves before drinking.

In addition, matcha contains a quarter less caffeine than a cup of coffee, but due to the slow release of caffeine it provides an energy boost for up to 6 hours.

This also makes matcha and intermittent fasting a great combination. Read more about intermittent fasting and matcha in Blog 11 .

Matcha from The Matcha Man consists of 100% matcha without any external additives.

Preparation of matcha

  1. Fill the matcha bowl halfway with hot water and insert your bamboo whisk. This will soften it, creating a more attractive foam after frothing. The bowl will heat up, preventing the prepared matcha from cooling down too quickly. After 1 minute, empty the bowl and dry it thoroughly.
  2. Using a bamboo spoon , add the right amount of matcha to the bowl and make a paste with a little water and the whisk.
  3. Fill the bowl with 60-90 ml of water at a maximum temperature of 80 C°
  4. Use the whisk to make W-shaped motions, avoiding the sides and bottom. These motions are controlled by your wrist. Stop when a nice layer of foam forms on top of the matcha. The fewer bubbles in the foam, the better the result.

Additional information

Matcha is stone-ground green tea powder made from shade-grown tea. The tea leaves are covered with straw mats for four weeks before harvest, which ensures the plant produces more chlorophyll and amino acids. The more amino acids the leaves contain, the brighter the green color and the sweeter the tea. The leaves are hand-picked, then steamed and dried. Afterwards, the stems and veins are removed. The result, known as tencha, is finally stone-ground into matcha powder.

That is a question we often get. The great advantage of matcha powder is indeed the potential health benefit* it offers you. The way it is prepared and the way it is consumed make it unique. That matcha is healthy proves itself, as just a few sips a day are already enough.

Matcha

Matcha, we have all heard of it, but what exactly is it? It is the oldest Japanese green tea that the Japanese are so incredibly proud of, due to its rich flavor and potential health benefits. It is a green tea powder that is very popular all over the world. This is because matcha contains many nutrients and antioxidants.

The unique way in which matcha is processed ensures that all the benefits and nutritional value are concentrated in this green tea powder. You can drink it as a tea, but it can also be added to fruit juice, yogurt, or a smoothie, for example. If you would like to know more about its preparation and all the potential health benefits, please read on or feel free to contact us. We would be happy to tell you all about the amazing effects of this special Japanese tea variety.

Preparing matcha

In Japan, matcha is part of the tea ceremony. This ceremony consists of a series of actions performed in sequence to fully enjoy the tea. The goal is to create a relaxed atmosphere, a real "me-time" moment.

Before we move on to the proper preparation method, it is important to know how this type of tea is produced. Matcha is derived from the Camellia sinensis tea plant. The whole leaves are dried, steamed, and then ground into a fine powder. It is usually sold as packaged tea to prevent its amazing properties from being lost. There are many recipes you can use for its preparation. The taste of matcha also pairs wonderfully with things like granola, cake, vanilla ice cream, and smoothies.

How matcha works and its benefits

The potentially healthy effects of matcha have made it one of the most popular types of tea. The unique way it is produced ensures that all potentially healthy properties are preserved. For instance, a cup of matcha contains 135 times as many antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals as regular green tea. But there are more potential health benefits. Think of cholesterol reduction and stress relief; matcha can also be effective for weight loss. This Japanese tea is perfect as a morning ritual during intermittent fasting, to start the day healthy without breakfast. It is the ideal addition to a potentially healthy and varied diet. The chlorophyll naturally present in matcha powder has a detoxifying effect: it binds harmful metals in your body and flushes them out. Would you like to benefit from these advantages as well? In our webshop, you will find a wide range of matcha products.

Difference between matcha and green tea

The difference between matcha and regular green tea lies in the cultivation and processing of the tea leaves. To be processed into matcha, the tea bushes are shaded so that the leaves produce more chlorophyll. This substance provides matcha with its beautiful bright green color. Subsequently, the tea leaves are steamed, dried, and, unlike regular green tea, ground with a stone into a fine powder. After this, the powder is whisked with 80°C hot water until the substance begins to foam. It can then be consumed.
